| Indian Society for Bone and Mineral
Research (ISBMR) won the Amgen Award in November
2005 along with two more societies for their programme on BONE HEALTH
QUIZ. The Quiz was open to Medical under graduates and those doing
internship. ISBMR therefore organized the National Bone Health
Quiz to be conducted in three rounds. Seven cities viz.. Delhi Ahmedabad.
Jaipur, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata were chosen for
the purpose. The first two rounds were written and held on 24 September
2006 at all these cities at the same time. The participation was
by a team of two persons formed by themselves. In the first round,
all the registered teams (nearly 300 teams) participated. They answered
45 questions in 45 minutes. From the first round, we selected eight
teams at each city with the highest marks who, then participated
in the second round on the same day. At the end of the second round,
one team was selected from each city (total seven teams with 14
members). They participated in the final round, held at All India
Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, on 12 October
2006 afternoon. This round was an oral round with visuals etc. Winning
team of final round was given the title of “BONE HEALTH MASTER
OF INDIA”. Various prizes and reading material were given
to the participants and winners at all stages. All the participants
of the final round were given railway fare/boarding and lodging
to arrive in the Delhi. The winning team is being sponsored to an
International Osteoporosis meet being held in China in 2007.
To conduct the Quiz smoothly ISBMR appointed one coordinator in
each of the seven cities who along with the help of other ISBMR
members in that city approached the Principals of Medical Colleges
in their cities to allow their students to participate, besides
allowing pasting of Posters/Banners and other publicity material.
ISBMR had written letters to all the Principals in this regards.
All the publicity material and question paper were provided centrally
by ISBMR. This year, we targeted nearly 30 Medical Colleges having
a population of about 20000 students.
The response to the Quiz was really very encouraging and given
the finances, this can become a regular feature as there are almost
500 medical colleges in India which need to be targeted to spread
awareness about osteoporosis among the medicos.
